Random musings on photography and movies

Juno

February 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I finally got around to watching Juno. And I have to say that it lived up to the hype. I like knowing very little about a movie before watching it – that way I’m not expecting any lines or scenes from trailers or commercials. This movie really surprised me at how good it was.

To start with, the soundtrack is fantastic and a great fit with the quirkiness of the movie. With a mix, among others, of The Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, and Bell & Sebastian, how can you go wrong? I immediately downloaded the mp3 album on Amazon as soon as I got home. The acting was also pitch perfect. Ellen Page completely made the title role hers. I can’t imagine anyone else in that role. J.K. (where have I seen him before? for you non Oz or Law and Order fans) Simmons delivers another fine performance as Juno’s father. Michael Cerra essentially plays the same kind of character he played in Superbad, but he is good at it. And the writing was very funny and came fast and furious, at times not waiting for the audience to catch up.

On the whole, a very sweet, quirky, comedic gem.

Valentine’s Day Pillow Fight in San Francisco
